From the very beginning, the huge peace lantern floating in the middle of the lake has been the symbol of the Wolfgangsee Advent. Nowhere else is it possible to visit three christmas markets by boat, known for their unique charm and “picturesque” character, as in Sankt Wolfgang, Strobl and Sankt Gilgen (the departure-pier of the ferries is only about 200 m next to our hotel). The scenery of the three villages is incomparable.
Let yourself be enchanted by the events, the craft works, nativity scenes and museums (Lake Wolfgangsee has a 1.000-year old history).
Our hotel is only about 200 m away from the Schafbergbahn station, which was newly opened in 2023. The Christmas-decorated cog railway goes up to the Schafbergalm at 1.364 meters above sea level (please note the current timetable). You can't experience this anywhere else in the world!

If you look from Strandhotel Margaretha to the Lake Wolfgangsee and the mountains behind it, you can also see the Postalm area. Behind Bleckwand and Sparber, this largest alpine pasture area in Austria extends over a total area of 42 km².
On average, the high plateau is at 1.300 m, which means there is a fairly good guarantee of snow in our region. Here you will find the three most beautiful high-altitude cross-country-skiing-trails in the Salzkammergut, two of them with a length of 2 km and one with 5 km (a total of 1 km).
The skiing resort offers 12km of perfectly groomed slopes and is particularly popular with families, connoisseurs and snowboarders. The ski school on the Postalm is run by deep snow world champion Gabi Pilz and – you can be sure: children learn to ski better here than anywhere else. We are also happy to recommend the Postalm for ski-touring and snowshoeing. There are several peaks to choose, a ski rental with the best selection on site and a wide range of cozy huts for a stop afterward.

Our small and fine sauna in the Strandhotel Margaretha is equipped with a Finnish sauna, infrared cabin, Kneipp foot basin, salt wall relaxation room, four-poster bed and lying area. When the weather is right, and especially in winter, it is a popular place to relax and feel good in our hotel. Using the sauna is included in the room price for our hotel guests.
A special experience is a sauna session followed by cooling down in the lake as a natural diving pool.
This popular wellness facility in the style of a large alpine chalet is located just 1,8 km from our hotel in the direction of Ried / St. Gilgen. A short walk is great together with a winter wellness afternoon or evening. The Wellness Alm's offerings are quite extensive and also include a classic indoor swimming pool.
